Custom reed glass in Adel cabinets

Materials: Adel Birch cabinets

Description: The hack is a very simple idea; insert a selected glass into an IKEA cabinet. we chose to insert a reed glass into a dark stained Adel birch cabinet. Any kind of glass will work for this hack.

Take a solid upper door and on the back side of the door you will need a 1/4" route on all four sides of the FRAME to insert the glass. (if you look at the top of the door you can see the existing shelf for the wood center panel) you only route halfway into the depth of the door to expose the shelf for the glass.

We went to a glass shop and had them cut the reed glass to the size we wanted. Get enough 1/4 round for the amount of doors you are doing. We chose to stain the 1/4 round the same color as the door.
Once you have the glass and 1/4 round ready, lay the glass in the back of the door and carefully tack the 1/4 round into place on all four sides of the cabinet. Tack at an angle to get back into the wood. Try and use the thinnest finish tack you can find.

Presto you have a unique glass in a basic IKEA cabinet.

Materials: Adel birch doors with custom glass

Description: John Webb Construction and Design in Eugene, Oregon has cut the size of the doors to fit the existing corner space. New clear was inserted into the Adel birch door and attached to the cabinet using custom hinges.

Adel Birch Door as Mirror

Materials: Adel birch door and discarded broken mirror.

Description: I took a pre-owned Ikea Adel birch 15x24 door and carefully broke the top rail of the door. (the back is more beat-up than the front) I removed the middle panel.

I cut a mirror someone had thrown away because of a broken corner and cut it to the size of the middle panel.

Insert the mirror and glue the top rail back in place.

Also, below the mirror I used an Akurum kitchen 30" base cabinet. I actually bought this and the 2 15x30 Adel birch doors for an adult height bathroom sink. It also doubles as a slop sink in my basement.

I used some leftover granite tile pieces for the counter and an old porcelain cast iron sink.

Bathroom to Computer room using Kitchen Cupboards

Materials: Adel (cabinets) and Lagan (countertops)

Description: Our computer room started it's life as a first floor powder room.
We used an Ikea upper corner cabinet for a lower cabinet because we didn't have room for the depth of a lower cabinet. We used Ikea uppers for the two upper cabinets with adel glass panel doors.

The shelves in between the cabinets are EKBY TONY/ EKBY BJÃRNUM cut to size.
The counter top is a wood Ikea Lagan top. We used a table saw and jig saw to cut the top to fit.
