we have a winner

voting is closed for our "ikea hack of the year 2006" poll. and the winner is andrew's hemnes daybed turned banquette at an overwhelming 43% of votes. congrats, andrew.

second place is perennial favourite, vince's sliding door room divider at 26%. this happens to be the first hack i posted, which sparked off my love affair with ikea hacks. congrats, vince. and i still love you.

unfortunately, i can't give out anything but a warm, fuzzy title. perhaps, i'll be able to save up enough for a nice prize for the ikea hack of 2007. or if anyone knows how to wrangle some ikea gift cards, let me know. heh.

on another note, i'm currently in talks with arash & kelly of genius pad for an upcoming contest. and i'm so excited about it because i can't wait to launch ikeahacker's first contest AND give away a prize. details will be out soon.

Vote for the ikea hack of the year

i can't believe that i'm posting the last entry for the year. yeah, this is the last till we hit 2007. i'll be off tomorrow for a break with family and friends. then i'll be flying to bali to usher in the new year. i am so looking forward to the trip and hope to pick up some interesting pieces for my home.

when i started ikeahacker 6 months ago, i did not anticipate the response i would receive. for that, i am thankful. i've enjoyed meeting every one of you who have commented on the blog, helped me with my logo, html and questions. most of all, thank you for sending in your ikea hacks. that kept this site (and me!) going.

i figured we should end the year by voting for the 2006 mother of all hacks. i've shortlisted 10 of my favourites, which was really difficult as that meant filtering out some good ones. but here they are, the top 10. so get clicky clicky.

vince's sliding door room divider is still a hot favourite and one of the most searched pages on this blog.

our hack of the month for july. cheap and very stylish solution to light the stairs.

i like how striking this post-it lamp is. and not forgetting how easy it is to hack.

am loving the opaque sliding doors and how beautifully they hide the media clutter.

the nudie stamps do it for me. naughty and nice.

ingenious idea. who would have thought a potholder could take such good pictures?

lovely lovely. a terrific sideboard indeed. a fine specimen of a hack.

drab pillowcase made over into hot skirt.

now possible, every colour in the rainbow to match your moods..

i really think this banquette looks way better than the original daybed. ikea, watch and learn!

update: voting is now closed for this poll.
andrew's hemnes daybed turns banquette takes top spot!

we've had a great haul this year, haven't we?
i'm excited to seeing what turns up next year. please do keep your ikea hacks coming!

enjoy the holidays. merry christmas and see you next year.

ikea hack of the month - august

work has been ultra crazy and i've been slack posting our regular hack of the month. but anyways, it is finally done. july's vote is closed with simon's cheap but chic stair lighting receiving the lion share of the votes. congrats, simon!

now, on to august. we featured 3 pet hacks, the cat pod, no pooper cat litter but my favourite is the stolmen cat gym. if i were a cat, i'd be purring in contentment.

i also like claire's jazzed up chair and this simple (but probably not very lasting) post-it lamp shade. lastly, emily's gorgeous shoe storage, which earned her a mention in chicago apartment therapy. not many hacks get that honor. so what do you think? clicky clicky.

ikea hack of the month - july

as cliche as it sounds, it is true that times flies when you are having fun. another month of ikea hacking has passed and it's time to vote the best for July.

my picks are:
  1. the cheap yet chic stair lighting because i love its ingenuity and uber cool looks.
  2. the i-was-once-a-teddy bear cam creature because it is cuter than its original form.
  3. timtom's romantic palanquin bed because, well, which girl doesn't like romantic beds?
  4. and, the last minute contender, the i-am-all-dressed-up-billy because i so want to do the same to mine.

click the buttons to give your nod.
