Each stamp starts with a block of wood -- the carving process begins with planed slices of shesham wood:
The artisan’s create a free hand drawing of the design on tracing paper and then transfer it onto the planed surface of the wood block:
Then the block maker works with a hammer and chisel to create this, the stamp:
Isn’t that fantastic? It is so intricate, it takes my breath away! I can’t even begin to imagine how long that must take – and that’s just one block!
The printing begins with the stamping of the of the 'outline'. The most experienced artisan is assigned this task since it provides the framework for which the rest of the design is printed:
Then the designs are filled in with color and the linens are washed and stitched into a number of gorgeous options – including bedspreads and duvet covers:
With shams and pillow covers to match:
